omgggg ok so for my genetics lab we’re learning about Alu polymorphisms and for our samples we used our own DNA and ran it through a gel and we’re supposed to figure out our genotypes based on the band sizes
and the frequency of alleles at this particular Alu locus varies among different human populations, i.e. different ethnic groups (to a certain extent)

and we were asked to predict which alleles we’re most likely to have based on what we know about our own ancestry; obvs i just picked the most common alleles
but i analyzed the products i got on my gel and determined that my genotype is +Alu S1 / + Alu S2!!!
and it’s just cool because the + Alu S2 allele was apparently not even present in any of the Asian populations that were analyzed (note the zeroes on the table) and the + Alu S1 allele wasn’t present in any of the European Caucasian populations but i happened to get both alleles — one from each parent — because i’m both!!! and omg even my DNA reflects this!!!!! …at least at this particular locus hehehehe
